DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 992 with "Adjusted For Railroad Service 21 Jewels" signed dial, 21J, 16S, gold-filled OF original case with initials to rear, Montgomery white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, gilt regulator and mvt screws, two-tone gilt and nickel checkerboard pattern damascene, s#786055. A scarce and desirable railroad marked watch, this early example notably does not have a secondary number lightly scratched on its movement surface which is a feature that is found among nearly all of the later production of this marking type.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, good two-tone color, plates with some scattered surface spotting which is most notable at the train bride, some fine and micro-fine scratches, minor oxide to winding wheels and regulator assembly, one case screw is missing half its head and the other with a spacer inserted beneath; nearly flawless dial with a very faint hl above seconds-register, minuscule edge nick under bezel at setting lever; excellent hands; case shows light wear, denting to rear, many tiny nicks along band, excellent engraving detail, one tiny spot of wear to brass to band at 11, very thin partial rings of wear to brass to band edges; tight brassy bow, crown shows ample wear; good glass crystal.
